About Katie Ovrom
I incorporate attachment theory to assess how old patterns may be operating in the present and use the framework of Judith Herman’s three stages of recovery (stabilization, reprocessing, and reconnection) to guide my work. I am trained in Feminist Multicultural Theory and analysis and am LGBTQIA+ affirmative. In my work, I will respect your identities, honor your strengths, and allow you to guide the pace and direction of counseling. The most common modalities I use are Self Compassion, EMDR, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Mindfulness based interventions.
I have additional training in working with self-harming behaviors and the treatment of trauma. I am also a yoga instructor and I incorporate mindfulness skills into all of my work in order to promote a greater sense of well being.
My primary goal as a counselor is to work with you to cultivate compassion for yourself and others as you pursue your goals and discover what healing means for you. Compassion does not sacrifice growth and accountability, but offers an alternative means of motivation to self criticism, guilt, and shame. Together we will use compassion to help you learn new tools and recognize your own strengths so that in moments of suffering, you are able to feel, grow, and make choices with greater kindness and confidence.
