About Elisabeth Lilja

My path to the field of mental health started with yoga while exploring the relationship between the body and lived experiences. I have taught yoga for over 13 years and meditation for 6 as a way for people to connect to their body. While I believe that connection to the body is a part of healing lived experiences, I also find great success through verbal processing and mindfulness based modalities. As a clinician, I believe that we hold our stories and experiences in our bodies. Each of us have lived experiences that leave imprints on our lives sometimes impacting our ability to connect to ourselves and those around us. I aim to foster a space that is not only safe in therapy, but also brave in order to encourage–growth, self-discovery, and healing.

I work with both adolescents and adults who are experiencing self-harming behaviors, self-esteem issues, eating disorders, body perception issues, depression and anxiety while employing a trauma informed approach to healing and occupying the body through: mindfulness, movement, nature, and talk therapy–in particular employing a Psychodynamic and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) approach.

Outside of my clinical work I can be found eating chocolate, baking, cooking, getting my own nature therapy in the form of hiking, riding bike, teaching and practicing ultimate bending (also known as yoga) and learning to play the banjo.
